Cuba Travel Itinerary

Flights to Havana: Havana Air website - https://res.havanaair.com/SYS/RESHOME - https://www.cubatravelservices.com *All guests are welcome to find their own flights from a different departure port. We can advise on different flights. The purpose of the program: The Cuba UW Photo Trip to Gardens of the Queen is a unique educational program designed to introduce the participants to the incredibly well preserved eco-system of Gardens of the Queen. The group will learn about the various marine life and corals which thrive thanks to the successful conservation efforts made by the Cuban government over the years. The group will learn first-hand from local marine experts about the history of the area as well as get a chance to document it themselves, while experimenting with UW camera gear and refining their photography skills. Furthermore, the group will visit Cuba’s capital – Havana, and experience the local culture by communicating with local people and learning about important historical sites from professional guides. 1st day: Arrival · Transfers to/from Havana José Martí International Airport, located 9 miles from. Taxi are waiting for clients in front of the airport (about 30$)

· Plans for the rest of the day are subject to arrival times of all guests.

· Hotel or casa particular (suggested www.airbnb.com) check-in.

· Lunch at a local Cuban restaurant

· A presentation about the history of Havana. Walk through Habana Vieja and communicate with the locals to learn about the life in Havana form their own perspective. We will visit the Fortress of El Morro with a local guide.

· We will visit the 4 historic plazas in Havana that makes it one of the most unique architectural places in the western hemisphere.

· Dinner at a local Cuban restaurant.

2nd day · Early breakfast – 24 hour room service and check out - until 3am.

· Early AM Transfer to Boat harbor Jucaro – 3:30am.

· 6 hour private bus ride .

· Stop at fruits and vegetable stands and meet the local farmers.

· Boarding the vessel - Avalon 1.

· Boat ride to Gardens of the Queen (5 hours) `

Days 2nd - 7th · 6 nights aboard.

· Includes all meal and 6 beverages/day

· 3 dives a day.

· Meet with Cuban marine experts to gain insight into the conservation measures that Cuba is taking to preserve their delicate aquatic ecosystem in the Gardens of the Queen.

· OR / AND : an underwater photography workshop is offered during the trip.

Day 7th · Early breakfast.

· Return to Jucaro and checkout from vessel.

· Transfer from Boat harbor Jucaro to Havana José Martí International Airport or the Havana, subject to departure time of the flights of all guests - 6 hour drive in a private bus.

· Check in Hotel / Casa particular / Air B&B.

· Dinner at a local Cuban restaurant.

**Day 8th **

· Early breakfast.

· Walk through the old city and have lunch in a local Cuban restaurant. Talk to local people and exchange ideas.

· Visit the Museum of the Revolution -

The Museum of the Revolution is a museum located in the Old Havana, Cuba. The museum is housed in what was the Presidential Palace of all Cuban presidents from Mario García Menocal to Fulgencio Batista. It became the Museum of the Revolution during the years following the Cuban revolution.

The museum's Cuban history exhibits are largely devoted to the period of the revolutionary war of the 1950s and to the country's post-1959 history. Portions of the museum are also devoted to pre-revolutionary Cuba, including its War of Independence waged against Spain. Learn about the history of Cuba from a local guide.

· Visit the El Cañonazo ceremony in Fortaleza de San Carlos de la Cabaña - 9pm

The nightly 9pm cañonazo ceremony is a popular evening excursion in which actors dressed in full 18th-century military regalia reenact the firing of a cannon over the harbor. You can visit the ceremony independently or as part of an organized excursion. Be on time (+/- 8 p.m.), since good places with an excellent view are limited. When the ceremony is over, you can go eat dinner in the restaurant inside the fort.

· The Habana Vieja (old Havana) is brimming with bars, tango houses and cultural centres. The main strip of Calle Obispo is the place to begin an old town bar hop, where a seductive musical soundtrack and spontaneous street side grooving provides some of the city's best free entertainment. This is a great way to experience the local life in Havana and the atmosphere in the streets at night.

**Day 9th **

· Early breakfast.

 Transfer to José Martí International Airport or the Havana, subject to departure time of the flights of all guests . Flight back home.
